Last Night I ended up at Egger's Roadhouse on Rt. 26.

For those of you who don't know it is a place out in the country. It's not fancy and it's not pretty, but it's not supposed to be. Most of it's customers live in the local area. They have 10 or so rooms they rent out in an adjacent building. The establishment used to be called the Fitz Inn.

The owner Ed spends a lot of time away from home doing computer work or something out of state, but it turns out that whenever he is in town he tries to do some sort of dinner special.

Last night was the steak dinner and I was lucky enough to be there when it was available.

For $13.99 you get a salad, a huge strip steak, a cob of corn, and a baked potato.

1st off The salad is nothing special, but it was more than good enough. It was your typical fresh garden salad. Now when the main meal came that is when I got excited. There was so much food that it was hanging off the plate. The steak was the best steak I have had since I was in Florida this past winter. It was seriously better than any steak I have ever had at Cavallarios or the Clipper. The steak was so damn good that you didn't even need to put anything on it. It was cooked on a BBQ out back over open flame. The fresh corn on the cob and baked potato were great as well. I know some people will say how can you mess up a baked potato or corn on the cob, but seriosuly this was a perfect baked potato and the corn on the cobb was juicy and sweet. You can just tell that Ed has been perfecting this particular meal for a while now.

Another great thing about Egger's is the bottles of beer are only $2.00. How can you beat that ? You're definitely going to leave the place with money in your wallet.

The only problem with all of this is you never know when Ed will be home and doing one of the dinners. That and quantities are often limited.

I have been told that the Rib Dinner is unbelievable as well. It's a huge rack of ribs with 2 sides for about the same price as the steak dinner.

Ed won't be back home for 2 weeks so I guess the only way you can get the inside scoop on these special dinner nights is by going up to the Roadhouse yourself once in a while.

I did have a little chat with Ed while I was there and there is a chance we may be announcing some of the dinner nights this fall and winter on abaynews.com. It really all depends as it is kind of an insider thing right now and Ed has to be ready for it if a lot of people show up.

For me personally I often forget about Egger's because it is a bit out of town. From now on though I am going to make an effort to wander up there a little more often.

They have M&M's too !! :)
