"ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y. — John N. Russell, 83, of Linden Cove Extension, died Sunday, July 6, in Houston, Texas. Born Aug. 5, 1930, in Watertown, the son of Newton and Louise Touchette Russell, he graduated from Watertown High School and then from the University of Vermont. He served in the Army during the Korean War. John had a long and distinguished career in the Hotel Management business. He started with a "handshake deal" to manage the Hotel Woodruff in Watertown, which he ran for many years. He then managed the Yahnundasis Golf and Country Club in New Hartford, N.Y. He managed Pine Tree Point in Alexandria Bay during it's "boom years", introducing musical acts like Ferguson & Taylor, events like Jazz Brunches, and introducing many tourism firsts to the 1000 Islands. Lastly he served as general manager of Bonnie Castle Resort, for many years, retiring at the age of 80."
