"The traffic lights are down!.. The traffic lights are down!" phone calls and texts came in from multiple sources all at once..

Hearing this news I decided to leave my vehicle parked.. I ran from my house to the intersection as quickly as I could.. nearly wiping out at least 3 times because of of the horrible sidewalk conditions due to our recent ice storm..

When I arrived at the intersection this is what I found..

Traffic lights down.. various crews at the scene.. folks directing traffic..

It didn't seem like anyone was hurt..  I was given multiple theories about what happened.. "the lights just fell".. "a utility truck backed into them".. "ice fell and cut the wires".. etc etc..

So at this point.. I don't know what happened, but I'll post more when I do..

UPDATE: I now have somewhat reliable info on what happened...This info comes from a utlity worker..  It's a thing called "Spring Loaded Reaction" ice and snow had the lines loaded with weight.. the sun started to melt it.. when the weight came off to quickly the lines sprung up just like a spring.. bringing them down..

And BTW for those of you who don't know.. we only have traffic lights at one intersection in Alexandria Bay..
