Though I didn't see him too often Bob Ely was a good friend of mine. He was a riot to talk to, always smiling, always laughing, there really wasn't anyone else like him. Bob taught himself to speak Gaelic, read tons of books, was an expert on plant life, and knew more about any random old topic than just about anyone I've ever known.

In recent years I hired Bob's Company "Green George Landscape" to do the flower bed at my restaurant. He would always say to me "how about some hot pink flowers?.. ah comon.. you know they're gonna look hot" lol.. and I was like NO..  well, he talked me into it after a while and they ended up looking pretty darn hot.. :) Bob was right.. and from now on it's hot pink perennials :)

Bob always gave me an update on his fight with cancer. He went on crazy adventures to Ireland and other far off places during remission. He said he just wanted to see and experience as much as he could while he could. The last thing I said to Bob was that he was a great guy and I hoped he lived to be 100. He just smiled and said "I hope so too". Unfortunately I didn't get my wish.. Bob will however live on in our memories.
