Tonight there was a huge Marsh/Cat Tail fire near Alexandria Bay.. between Goose Bay and Cranberry Creek actually.. at times the flames were probably 40 foot high and fire as wide as a football field maybe?.. the fire spread over a really long area. every fire department you could imagine was there.. smoke filled the air.. when I left at 11 pm the fire was not only still going in the marsh, but ashes were coming down like snow miles away..

I don't have details on how the fire started.. we just know the cat tails are really dry from the warm weather and the water level is lower than usual. At 10:30pm I was told no structures had been consumed by fire.. I suspect the hard work of early responders had much to do with that because I know the fire got too close for comfort to some of the homes back in there..

Still going when I left it seemed like the fire had almost run it's course.. provided no acts of nature pushed it further.. for example across the creek towards the bay where there is a lot of wooded area..

If I hear more I will post it.. if you know more leave a comment..  AWESOME JOB TOO BY ALL EMERGENCY PERSONAL THAT RESPONDED..

UPDATE: as of midnight the fire is out ! No structures damaged.. they were able to keep it contained to just the marsh and finally put it out

UPDATE.. fire apparently started because of a burning barrel..
