T
he event kickoff on Friday is a reception and cocktail party at the Boldt Yacht House. Amidst the setting of the architectural marvel and the collection of vintage boats, the guest will enjoy an abundance of delicious hors d’oeuvres."

What the Boat Show is all about..

If you ever had a puppy or a kid or a mom or a pop, then you know what is special about these old boats. They are all part of the family. They come into your life and stay. They are given names that mean something to their owners. They provide us with memories and are the basis of dreams and of stories. Sometimes they do not behave as we would like, but we love them anyway. It is a symbiotic relationship that lasts a lifetime. They require constant care, but they are always there to take care of you when you need them. Eventually a time will come when you feel you cannot properly care for them, and you worry about their future, hoping to find them a new home where they will continue to be cared for and loved and cherished.

This show is about sharing the rich heritage of these boats with others. You will see a variety of boats.  They continue to be used for every imaginable purpose, from ferrying people and supplies to the islands to fishing, picnicking, and swimming. Often they take their owners and guests on sunset rides.  Most have lived their lives on the river. Some, such as the runabouts, have gleaming varnish and polished chrome and were made by companies like Chris Craft, Hacker, Hutchinson, Gar Wood, Dodge, Fitzgerald and Lee,  and Shepherd. In the 1950s we referred to them as speed boats. During the prohibition their speed was greatly appreciated.
