Marine Law Enforcement Day at Alex Bay

On Thursday June 17th Gary Kocher a high school teacher at Alexandria Central and US Coast Guard Auxilary member at Alex Bay organized a Marine Law Enforcement Day for the Elementary students at ACS at the Alex Bay Village Dock. There were five agencies that attended and put on demonstrations for the students. The agencies and their boats included the US Coast Guard, US Homeland Security and Border Patrol, NY State Park Police, Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, and the Alex Bay Fire Department boat. Those who presented were Bob Kernehan AB Fire Department, Officer Nick Shaw NY State Park Police, Deputies Victor Rodriguez and Matthew Vauhgn Jefferson County Sheriff's, Agent Mike Connor and Agent Brock Patterson of US Homeland Security, and Coasties BM3 Zachary Carman, BM3 Steven Perkins, MK3 Jordan Johnson, SNBM Richard Donunlon, and FN Gary Thibault. The students were able to board the boats and try the horn, siren, and loud speakers.




















Thousand Islands Boating Safety Coursee for 2010

These eight hour courses are open to youth and adults. Youth ages 10-18 need this course to operate a boat without adult supervision. People ages 14 and up need this course to operate a personal watercraft (jet ski) or if caught without it will pay a $ 100 fine. This course is good for ones lifetime. Most insurance companies provide a discount with this course as well. Call Gary Kocher at 315-486-5230 to register.

August 18th - Round island 8 am - 4 pm
August 23 - 24 - Antique Boat Museum - 5 - 9 pm
