Where:

River Hospital
7 Fuller Street
Alexandria Bay, NY

When: Wednesday, March 3, 2010 4:00 PM

WHY: The Committee to Save River Hospital will hold a public rally to protest the planned closure of River Hospital's Skilled Nursing Facility and the Day Care Outreach Program. Members of the surrounding communities who are concerned about the future of health care as wells as the loss of jobs in the Thousand Islands region, are urged to attend. Supporters should gather outside the main River Hospital at 7 Fuller Street, Alexandria Bay.

The Committee to Save River Hospital was formed in response to the hospital's Board of Trustees decision to close the skilled nursery - a decision they made behind closed doors. Eight years ago, the Thousand IsIands/River community rallied to save the entire hospital from financial ruin. By acting in secrecy, the Board chose not to seek help from that very same community. They also acted without informing local elected officials who have steadfastly worked to identify and obtain additional funding sources that have helped maintain the hospital. By acting alone, the Board failed in its key mission -- to serve the community. This failure threatens the long-term viability of the hospital.
