Dear Friends and Family,

As I am sure you have heard, the Ogdensburg Correctional Facility is on the list to be closed by Governor Patterson. This is the prison where Scott has worked for the past 4 years. Previously, he spent 7 years in Fishkill Correctional Facility which is about 5 hours away from home. Our family cannot do this again!
Other than the obvious personal reason for not wanting this prison to close, there are other issues of more concern. OCF is the home of CERT (Corrections Emergency Response Team). This serves Riverview CF, Cape Vincent CF, Watertown CF, and the St. Lawrence County Jail. In the recent past this has been the most deployed team in NYS. This team serves the prisons by providing help during riots within the prisons, escape of inmates, assistance during National Emergencies as well as natural emergencies such as fires, ice storms, etc.. The members of this team receive special, in depth training in order to be a part of CERT. They even pay dues to be members. 95% of the officers on the CERT are from OCF. If OCF is closed these officers will be disbursed throughout the state and your hub will be left unprotected! Yes ...Scott is on the CERT.
OCF houses approximately 500 inmates. Where will they go? They will over crowd other prisons and put other officers in jeopardy. Or early release for good little inmates!
St. Lawrence County is already in severe economic distress. The closing of this prison will be detrimental to their economy!
So why am I writing to you about this.....I am begging for your support in anyway you can think of. The one thing you can do right now is sign the on-line petition at www.saveourprison.com
