Another mid-winter event for us. The Thousand Islands Winery held its second annual Valentine's Day Food and Wine Pairing on Saturday, February 14. Last year was well received and Winery President Steve Conaway said, "Our Valentine's Day event has become so popular that it sold out a month early." Starting in the winemaking building there was a barrel tasting of Cabernet Sauvignon wine and an Herbed Gorgonzola Cheese Cake-yes, Gorgonzola and Cheese Cake and it was good! Next offering in the Winery was a Shrimp and Onion dip appetizer paired with a sweet Delaware wine, followed by the main dishes of Chicken Portifino with Pinot Grigio wine, North Country Red Meat Balls with North Country Red wine and Hawaiian Fish with Wellesley Island White wine. Desert was Peach Raspberry Compote with Raspberry Island wine and a vanilla sour cream topping. Susie O'Neill, Clayton said, "The sweet red wine complimented the meat balls." Blair D'Demonico, Clayton liked the chicken dish and Joe D'Demonico, Clayton thought the shrimp dip was, "Unique and tasty." All 27 couples were kept busy with the ongoing activities. The evening ended with the Winery version of the old television show The Dating Game, now renamed "The Nearly Newly Wed" game. The game is still a fun filled event with the ‘wrong' answers given by the men. Conaway said, "The food and wine parings have become so popular that the Winery has scheduled two more similar events for August 1 and 15, 2009 to help meet the demand."
